I was thinking about all the popular services out there, especially the “social media” types. Even before the internet people said we live in a soundbite world. We still do. Only, back then the sound bites came from famous people or members with some kind of social standing or authority. These days the soundbites come from everyday people.
For Digg, del.icio.us, and StumbleUpon the currency is links and the little blurb and/or title you might attach to it. For twitter and Facebook it’s the little thoughts or happenings in your life. The social functionality helps pick up the slack for others. You don’t have to worry about presentation or holding an entire audience on your own. The competition, camraderie, and simplicity create an enticing mix for people to continue participating.q
