It has the same elements (somewhat) but lacks freshness or fizz. I've had the same reaction when my iPod shuffle would throw a classic soul tune into the mix. It's not just the instrumentation but the lyrics sometimes sound "controversial" even though there are no explicit words simply because the verses are deeper, real, and original. I think that I would agree that it seems like a lot of music nowadays is rather stale. It is unoriginal, using the same sounds. Personally, I might hear a lot of the stuff that gets airplay, but I have no intention of supporting the artists by buying their records unless they really intrigue me. Actually as of late, I've been getting into older music (1970's and prior) because I've both been digitizing an old record collection and because I've realized how original some of it is compared to today's music.
