Thx. I see no problem with Scoble taking an honorarium at all because he fully disclosed. I was disappointed to see him cave on that aspect of participation. And even if he had chosen not to disclose, these things have a way of surfacing.

I'm a big believer in transparency too - it's why I use the same username across all sites where I register - even if the site would be considered a competitor to the company I work for. In my view, it's just the right way to operate.

I don't believe in "collective wisdom" and in fact think it's dangerous on a number of levels. I'm interested in what the majority thinks, but I don't make decisions around it. Then again, I enjoy socializing in person and on the net with smart people - and smart folks typically aren't afraid to go against the mob mentality and march to their own drum.

I agree with you so much. If you compulsively buy anything you see on infomercials, that's an individual's choice. Even if there was no disclosure your gut should tell you if something's not right. Unless it's an outright scam I don't see the issue, just shut them out. I think it's unfair for A-list bloggers to wield their influence to try and crush new monetization opportunities before the dust settles. It's easy to be ethical when you have a good cash flow. Not everyone has the same opportunities.

However, I'm all for more transparency. I just say let the audience demand it and not have the top 5% of the blogosphere call the shots. It's a free market and blogging's still a new medium.
