I Got My Account Deleted by Digg

Thanks for the good times. Looks like I got my account deleted by Digg. I’ve been using the Digg all bookmarklet some time after they deleted the top users list. I fully realize that this goes against standards of the community so I’m not surprised that I got my account deleted. Looks like changes went into effect today as I’ve been doing this a while.

What is surprising is that there is no warning or notification from Digg. Not even a screen telling me the consequence of my actions. Suddenly my account went inactive and showed I wasn’t logged in. I knew at that very moment that my account was dead.

I don’t intend to protest this or contact Digg. I’m simply posting this to let people know that if you do blind digging, you’ll eventually get your account banned.

  1. I never knew about this Digg All thing, but I guess I wouldn’t use it even if I did (don’t want to find myself mistakenly supporting something I shouldn’t, I have like 600 friends).
Just write them an email, I’m sure they’ll get your account re-instated.
Some sites send you emails if you do something wrong. Digg tends to shoot first and ask questions later.
Me and Steve were just discussing how Plime.com is shaping up to be a great site (despite his article). Check it out.

  2. Looks like their being more heavy handed with deletions.

Douglas Skarr gave User/Submitter a whirl recently and got banned immediately.

  3. Yeah, give Plime a shot, it’s not half bad

  4. Welcome to the club ;)
i’ve wrote about it, but not because of the reason you’ve said.
Digg decided to banned my account with no reason. and with no explanation of course.
seems they have forgot who help them to grow up,
but i think they wont success for long.

  5. Well, I think I’ll take a break from Digg before I even think about asking for reinstatement. I’ll check out the other stuff for a while. Plime’s shaping up I suppose. It’s amazing how little real competition they have in this space.

  6. That sucks Baron. What does the “Digg All” bookmarklet do again?

  7. In the Digg comments for this article, self-proclaimed Digg bury brigade member Canewediggit (who should have been banned himself for “blind burying” and other nastiness) is busy gloating that Digg is finally “doing something about blind digging.” The very fact that Digg continues to tolerate Canewediggit just shows what a cesspool Digg truly is.

1389 got banned PERMANENTLY for writing comments pointing out just how easy it is for Digg admins, employees, and owners to engage in blogola/Diggola and every other imaginable scam without anybody being the wiser. There are no audit trails on anything that Digg is doing, including their ability to bury or promote stories, delete comments, or disable user IDs. They can do whatever they like and pass it all off as the “democratic” votes of the Digg user base, which is total and utter hogwash.

1389 is well known to be an antijihadist conservative. Many others who dugg 1389’s submissions or who made comments in support of 1389’s opinions have been banned recently, again with no explanation whatsoever.

One user, afghanwhiggle, claimed to work for Digg in a thread several months ago:
    http://digg.com/tech_news/Do_Digg_Users_Read_Past_the_Headlines#c2748937
“I work for digg; So I am really getting a kick out of most of these replies. Some of you guys are very good at making it sound like you know what you are talking about. But trust me…. You don’t. I think you just want to make yourself sound smart, when in reality you don’t know what you are talking about. This is how bad info gets passed around. If you don’t know about the topic….Don’t make yourself sound like you do. Cos some digg users believe anything they hear.”

But afghanwhiggle is also a known cyberstalker and harasser of conservative and antijihadist Digg mmbers. Details are provided in this thread – follow up the links fo youself:

1389 gives it upwards of fifty-fifty odds that jihadist-sympathizers (or outright jihadists) have compromised Digg’s staff, so as to suppress stories that draw any suspicion to Islam in general, and jihadists in particular. DHS, are you listening?

  8. Yep you nailed it on the head. In fact digg is actually the ones hiding Osama Bin Laden right now.. They also blew up the USS Cole, and Are the reason we invaded Iraq.

Get a life man, Digg isnt out to get you or your fanatic buddies lol

  9. Jeremiah,
The Digg All button diggs all your friend’s submitted stories with one click. I can definitely understand why Digg wouldn’t like this, just can’t understand why they don’t throttle it or give a warning.

    1389,
I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s any dirty stuff going on behind the scenes at Digg. I think it’s obvious that there’s some kind of censorship going on.

    Bob,
    What fanatics?

  10. But, do they have a “bury all” tool? Besides the one that targets us!

  11. Haha. Must be an acceptable activity as far as they’re concerned. Maybe we can all create a lovey dovey domain for Digg and then use that to redirect traffic to us! I never realized how bad Digg is with criticism.

  12. Digg does not like it when other people criticize it. They bury their opponents rather than address their problems.

  13. Ugh… I’m digging digg less and less.

  14. It was my fault for blind Digging but I just don’t understand why there’s no warning and why they suddenly take issue with my actions (been doing it for a couple weeks).

Oh well. I got my account unbanned so I’ll be submitting some stuff again. Still, the time is ripe for a social media site done right.
