HMTKSteve & Charbarred,
Notice how we're talking about a tech news site and not North Korea yet it's hard to see the difference in approach. Instead of a dictator we have an anonymous mob.

I'd be honestly bummed if I found out my site got banned for good but then again I don't think much about the mob so I'm not going to be walking on egg shells on my own blog. You just can't give them that kind of power over you. We'll see how this plays out but at the end of the day if Digg starts to suck (and I think it is) we'll have a new player on the scene.

sicc,
I'm out and about right now so I'll get back to you tomorrow. I'll have my messenger on so ping me anytime. Sorry about that.

Danny,
Thanks for pointing that out. Yeah that's the thing about Digg. When you have good content that rubs the mob wrong in some way they start burying because they know the content is good enough to reach the front page and lord knows they can't forgive that.

I respect you for speaking your mind and wish some of the more notables would look at this situation and add to the dialogue but I know they wont for fear of losing traffic.

I really enjoy your blog. Thanks for stopping by!

FYI, the story was already buried when I started commenting. I don't usually comment that much, but heck, I was having fun going through the comments one by one to underscore how they failed to read the article. Of course, it WAS so freakin’ long that I never expected it to be on Digg and get popular. I never wrote it with Digg in mind. I was amazed when it went popular. In the end, no biggie -- just made for an interesting day :)

I completely agree with Steve. I had my blog banned which hurt a bit but doesn't matter because it's not about tech stuff. Quality tech blogs like Baron.VC or HMTK can really suffer from this on the other hand.
A lot of bloggers know that already, and try to avoid being on digg very often. The result, less interesting content on digg. If I wanted to read CNet or TechCrunch I'd just visit those sites...same applies for YouTube.

Ah the bury brigade...

A while back I published a few articles that were critical of Digg, now anyone who submits my content to Digg sees it get buried. A few more submissions and my blog will be banned as Spam...

It's ironic that these stories getting buried only proves the point.

Great article, Baron. The "bury brigade" is definitely an issue that desperately needs to be addressed. I'm only sorry that it'll never see the light of day on Digg's homepage.
