After watching both installments of the Grindhouse collaboration (the other being Planet Terror ), I find myself struggling to find things to compliment (aside from the faux Machete preview that I could watch over and over). Both movies are a tribute to the B-movie grindhouse tradition to supposedly simulate the experience of watching movies on the cheap at some run down road house. The problem is you’re constantly second-guessing Tarantino. Is this some kind of obscure reference that I should just “get” or does this thing just really suck?
I did enjoy the hot women in the film. Tarantino has a great eye for finding beauties with a quirky edge. Sydney Tamiia Poitier is very beautiful and it’s shocking that she’s stayed unknown for so long. I guess you could dissect all the obscure film references or analyze Tarantino’s stylistic touches but at the end of the day the movie wasn’t brainless enough for unadulterated fun nor was it so well-crafted that those aspects alone would be worthy of a good viewing.
The car chase was priceless and breath-taking but I’m sure you could find that on YouTube rather than spend a good hour and a half getting to it. Over and out.Death Proof
